Mind, Blown: Early Look at the Sandbox HD Maps
Can You Believe the Map Above is Mines?
The WG Devs have been busy, and while they haven’t produced a lot of new maps, they have churned out amazing new versions of many older maps.
The new HD maps are going live today, Oct. 11, on the Sandbox server, and they are absolutely stunning. Here’s the intro video by Wargaming:
In fact, you may not recognize them at first in this video by MatchyHK showing proposed HD changes to Prokhorovka, Malinovka, Murovanka, El Haluf, Steppes , Himmelsdorf, Mines, and Cliff.
MatchyHK got an early look at them on the Asian servers, so if you aren’t signed up for Sandbox you can get a good look at the new maps in that video.
A few of the middle map videos were badly shot with a phone camera, but the others show some shocking changes to these maps. For example, the entire centre ‘Donut’ on Mines is now a massive, crumbling fortress. Steppes looks completely different, although the basic map dynamics are the same, and El Haluf looks like something out of an Indiana Jones move.
As well, Community Contributor DezGamez posted an excellent video showing the HD maps, comparing the old maps to the new maps, and also giving some valuable information on how these maps respond on your computer.
Turns out the new maps are showing snappier response than the old ones thanks to the new graphics engine WG is using, so DezGamez actually had higher frame rates than he did on the older maps, despite the much better resolution and detail.
