The Super Conqueror Shows Why Its ‘Super’
The new Super Conqueror comes out today on the EU and NA servers, and apparently it’s a lot more Super now then it was when it first appeared on the test servers.
The first iteration of the Super Conqueror was a bit lacklustre. The gun depression was only -7 degrees, and the DPM and speed were both lower than the FV215B it replaces. The gun handling was also worse, so the tradeoff of more armour for worse gun handling and mobility resulted in a tank that was, at best, the same or worse.
But that all changed in the second iteration, and the Super Conqueror now looks like a real contender for random pub matches, especially when it can use its improved -10 degrees of gun depression.
So, what is the SC like? Well, it’s not fast and won’t be seen in many Clan Wars matches, but it is a true heavy with tough armour. It’s also a DPM monster, and can outduel even the Super Heavies with proper use of sidescraping or ridge line positioning.
The alpha is a little disappointing at 400 damage per shot, but it’s more than made up for with a rapid firing gun that spits out shells every 8.34 seconds, and with an aim time of just 1.92 seconds.
The DPM of 2,877 is among the highest at tier, and combined with accuracy of 0.32 this tank can often plunk two shells into an enemy heavy before the enemy gets off a second shot.
The SC is still pretty slow, lumbering along at 34 kph, so it’s not competing with the WZ 111 5A for spots in clan wars matches, but it’s armour is pretty epic.
The star of the show for this tank is the 279.4 mm of frontal turret armour, which combines with a welded plate across the front to make this very difficult to penetrate even with HEAT. Very few tanks will be able to pen this monster when it’s hull down and using its gun depression.
The side armour is also very good and much better than the FV215B which had an obvious and easy to hit weak spot. The Super Conq sidescrapes very well indeed, and good players can use that fast firing gun to permatrack enemies facing it.
However, the Super Conq has some weak spots, literally. Aside from being slow, the Super Conq has a cupola that can be penned, though not easily, and two weak spots you can hit from the front. One is the turret ring, and the other is the top of the Upper Glacis (upper frontal plate), which is highly angled, but is very thin.
That plate can be overmatched by 150 mm guns, so if you’re carrying a blunderbus on your tank, you can reliably pen the SC by shooting down on this plate.
All that said, this tank looks really promising for players who like the Slug-It-Out style of play, especially on ridge lines.
