Province Being Reworked as New Map
It looks like Wargaming really has been listening to the player base demands for new maps.
We’ve seen several iterations of a completely new map based in the Russian city of Minsk (headquarters of Wargaming, no less) which you can see on this site by CLICKING HERE.
Now, we’ve seen a release of a new/old map on the Russian Supertest server, which is essentially an expanded rework of the map Province.
For newer players, Province was a small map of only 600X600 meters that was used only for low tier games. A lot of players didn’t like it because it turned into a camp test of players hiding in bushes on both sides of a narrow valley. Games tended to be long, and a lot of new players just didn’t know how to push the other side without dying.
Personally, I loved Province as a new player, because I found some good videos on how to push successfully on that map. The design was beautiful, like a Tuscan hill town, and there were a couple of ‘secret’ paths you could take to surprise your opponents.
I found Province was a great map to learn the skills of a sniper, but it was unfortunately removed.
Now, it looks like Province is coming back, bigger and better than before, as a full 1000X1000 meter map. You can see the overview in the video below; Version 2 of the map starts at the 2:30 mark.
WG is achieving this by building out along the outside of the current map, and there are some pretty cool new elements that I think will make this map very different from anything currently in the game.
There are currently two versions being tested right now.
Version 1 above features a narrow river on the east flank and the cap areas are at the bottom of the valley as in the original map.
Version 2 below has a much wider body of water on the east flank, with a more difficult path to cross to access land on the other side. the caps are raised above the valley, and are farther apart. Personally, I prefer Version 2 at first glance.
To see the maps in detail, you can check out the two versions below.
Personally, I’m thrilled to see this map may be coming back to the game. It looks like it’ll have a campy, snipy sort of vibe, but unlike the old map it will also provide easier ways to flank, good spots for brawling tanks, and a strong role for spotting lights.
